Founder Explains the Latest in Robotic Technology for Bariatric Surgery Patients

In a recent Facebook Live, the founder of the clinic, Dr. Nick Nicholson, explained how bariatric surgery has evolved over the past few years and the ways this new technology can improve and positively impact patient outcomes.
This newest development in robotic surgery is known as the da Vinci Xi. This robot is the fourth generation and the most advanced robotics available for bariatric surgery. The da Vinci Xi allows surgeons to perform not only general surgery, but also gastric sleeve and gastric bypass surgery without fully opening up the abdomen. This type of surgical procedure reduces patient risk and can improve patient outcomes.
This robotics system allows the surgeon to utilize tiny instruments and a few small incisions in the abdomen with real-time adjustments for every movement the surgeon’s hand makes. With the surgeon guiding the robot’s arms, it’s able to bend and move in unique ways that traditional instruments are not able to do. A high-definition, 3D camera provides the surgical team with real-time views inside the patient’s abdomen. The reduced risk of complications means most patients will experience shorter hospital stays and more comfortable recovery periods, which can be a factor in their long term outcomes.
